Meditation for High Blood Pressure from Pedram Shojai

Pedram Shojai is an acclaimed Qi Gong master, you can read more about him at the bottom of the page.

Meditation and controlled breathing have both been proven to help lower blood pressure (and reduce stress and combat anxiety). There are several expensive devices which can be purchased to aid meditation/controlled breathing, but why not try our authentic blood pressure lowering/stress reducing (MP3) meditation session from Qi Gong master, Pedram Shojai.

I have a personal experience with controlled breathing and I would recommend doing the meditation every other day, as studies have shown this is most beneficial for lowering blood pressure. That said, if you can manage to do it daily, go for it, as you will still experience the other benefits of meditation and feel a great sense of relaxation.

Over to Pedram for a brief introduction to the meditation.

Meditation is about mindfulness and presence. There are a variety of types of practice out there with many different aims. To reduce blood pressure, we want to emphasize breathing techniques that calm the sympathetic and activate the parasympathetic nervous systems. It is really important to keep the tip of the tongue touching the roof of the mouth and stay aware of the our breath. In through the nose and out mouth is where the magic happens. Keep up with this practice and keep track of your blood pressure to see how it moves the numbers. Remember to have fun with it and relax into the practice!

High Blood Pressure Causes 62% of all Strokes and 49% of all Heart Attacks... Check your BP on the blood pressure chart. If the chart shows you are in the prehypertension or hypertension ranges, do something about it, even if it is just having a chat with your doctor. The blood pressure chart is for all adults regardless of age, as whilst your age rises, the thresholds for prehypertension and hypertension don't! (there is no blood pressure chart by age!) No matter what your age - if your BP is above 140/90 you should set about lowering it. You can record and monitor your readings on our printable blood pressure log.
